UK Nursing Student Promotes Ghanaian Culture and Student Mentorship at Ms. Ghana USA Competition

  Photo by Mark Cornelison When College of Nursing student Nana Ntodi was looking for a platform and resources to launch a student mentorship platform in her native Ghana, she found the perfect opportunity in the Ms. Ghana USA pageant competition.  "This was my first pageant - I wanted to do it because it would provide me with the appropriate resources to implement my project, and it combined my Ghanainan and American cultures."

Faculty Spotlight: Kacy Allen-Bryant

  By Tassy Taylor At only 2 years old, Kacy Allen-Bryant, MSN, MPH, RN, lecturer, lovingly tended to her grandmother’s ankle injury. As a teen, she helped her grandmother care for newborns recently discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). As a student, Kacy Allen-Bryant always excelled in science and math, and she eagerly participated in extracurricular activities that exposed her to STEM professions. She always knew nursing was in her DNA, and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was calling her name.

Katie Voigts Named DREAM Scholar

  The College of Nursing celebrated and honored its scholarship donors at its annual Scholarship Brunch on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Lexington. Dr. Zim Okoli Receives Grant from Department of Medicaid Services for Behavioral Health Tobacco Dependence Treatment

​Zim Okoli, PhD, MPH, MSN, RN, CTTS, associate professor, recently received a state contract from the Department of Medicaid Services entitled “University Partnership – Behavioral Health Tobacco Dependence Treatment.” Despite steady declines in the smoking use prevalence of the general US population in the past five decades, little change has been observed in some vulnerable sub groups, specifically, individuals in behavioral health settings (i.e. those with mental illness and substance use disorders).

Dr. Ellen Hahn Receives $919,465 in Grant Funding for Tobacco Treatment and Community Empowerment Research

Ellen Hahn PhD, RN, FAAN, professor, has received two grant awards; the first from the state of Kentucky entitled “University Partnership – Enhancing Tobacco Dependence Treatment” and the second from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences supplement program entitled "Empowering Concerned Communities with Validated Approaches to Environmental Citizen Science.”

UK College of Nursing Awarded Grant from Jonas Philanthropies to Fund Doctoral Nursing Students

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing is proud to announce it has been awarded a new grant of $10,000 from Jonas Philanthropies, a leading national philanthropic funder of graduate nursing education. This two-year grant will fund the scholarship of Ms. Leighann Koonmen, who will continue to grow in her field in chronic health conditions.

Nursing Students Get Hands-On Experience at Clinic in Ecuador

  For students in the UK College of Nursing, getting first-hand experience working in a clinical setting is an integral part of their training. But recently, five students went beyond the clinics and hospitals of the Bluegrass to apply their training in a different setting: Centro Médico Hombro a Hombro clinic in Ecuador.

Faculty and Staff Participate in Annual Retreat4Ward to Update Strategic Goals

On August 15, 2018, College of Nursing faculty and staff participated in the annual Retreat4Ward to update the College's strategic goals using the Appreciative Inquiry and SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) methods. Participants broke into small groups to discuss several goals for our strategic plan, including work-life balance as well as scholarship, research and practice among faculty and students.
