UK Named Top School for LGBTQ* Students

  By Blair Hoover Conner The University of Kentucky recently ranked among the top 25 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK received five out of five stars for overall campus climate from Campus Pride Index, a national benchmarking tool for colleges and universities which self-assesses LGBTQ*-friendly policies, programs and practices, conducted by and for LGBTQ* experts in the field of higher education. The index includes more than 235 colleges and universities.

Associate Professor Meets Leader of National Inclusive Excellence Leadership Academy

Evelyn Parrish, PhD, APRN-BC, associate professor, director of Accreditation & Strategic Outcomes and DNP Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Track co-coordinator, met Dr. Damon A. Williams, author of the best-selling books “Strategic Diversity Leadership: Activating Change and Transformation in Higher Education” and “The Chief Diversity Officer: Strategy, Structure and Change Management” as well as the monograph “The Role of the Chief Diversity Officers in Academic Medicine" on June 11.

Gov. Matt Bevin Appoints Assistant Professor to Kentucky Board of Nursing Board of Directors & Education Committee

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin appointed Jessica Wilson, PhD, APRN, assistant professor and RN-BSN track coordinator, to a four-year term on the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) Board of Directors as well as its Education Committee effective June 30th. 

UK CON Welcomes Nursing Student from British University in Egypt

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing gladly welcomes Israa Desokey Mansour, a second year nursing student from the British University in Egypt. During her internship at UK, she will learn about nursing in the U.S. from educational, practice and research perspectives. This will involve interacting with nursing students, nurse practitioners and nurse scientists as well as learning about tobacco use and treatment as an important health topic in Kentucky. From Bikes to Hikes: BSN Alum Honors Life of Former Nursing Student at Everest Base Camp

  In 2016, May 2018 BSN graduate Maya Husayni biked a thousand miles with her family to raise more than $17,000 for Syrian Refugees. Fast forward two years; she just completed a hike to Everest Base Camp, this time honoring Shayn Elexendere, a former student who passed away before he could graduate with Husayni's class. Husayni says it's a Buddhist tradition in Nepal to hang prayer flags so that the prayers are sent with the wind. 

Professor, Assistant Professor Receive $1.7 Million to Improve Health in Rural Kentucky

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recently awarded Sharon Lock, PhD, APRN, FNAP, FAANP, professor and assistant dean of Faculty Practice, and Dianna Inman, DNP, RN, APRN, CPNP, PMHS, PMHNP, assistant professor, a $1.7 million award entitled "Enhancing the Role of the Parimary Care Registered Nurse in Rural Kentucky." 

Eastern State Hospital Work Learning Program Strengthens Nursing Workforce

When Heather Robertson, MPA, saw how her daughter was flourishing at the University of Kentucky (UK), she recognized that a big part of the reason was the university’s Living Learning Program (LLP). The program, which enables students with similar interests or backgrounds to live in a residence hall together, offered her daughter support and a sense of belonging as she juggled a challenging schedule and adjusted to college life.

The College of Nursing held its first annual Circle of Remembrance Gathering to recognize those held in our thoughts and prayers this past academic year on Thursday, May 10, in the new Cultivating Practices for Resilience (CPR) room. 

RICH Heart Research Team Holds Inaugural Writing Institute for Faculty

  The RICH Heart Research Team held a one week intensive writing retreat to provide writing time and assistance with the completion of a manuscript project for CON faculty members. RICH Heart faculty and volunteers were available to provide consultations on a variety of topics related to manuscript development, preparation, submission, and revision.  Presentations and consultation topics included: Writing Statistics Manuscript submission Responding to Editors and Reviewers

  Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) visited the Polk-Dalton Clinic on Monday, May 7, to speak with PATHways staff about the comprehensive opioid maintenance treatment program for pregnant women recovering from addiction.
