A Week in the Life of a UK Nursing Student

My name is Katie Voigts. I am a senior nursing student, getting ready to start my last semester of nursing school, but I am also the Class President for the graduating class of December 2015.

Christa Cabot, a BSN senior and diver on UK’s swim team, was named as a Scholar All-American

Record-setting academic honors continue to come in for the Kentucky swimming and diving team following a 2014-15 season that was equally as impressive in the competition pool. Last week, 14 Wildcats were named Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The most Scholar All-Americans in a single season in program history, the 14 UK student-athletes recognized includes 10 first-team selections, also a UK record. It tops the eight CSCAA Scholar All-Americans from a year ago and beats the 11 in 2011, the previous high.

Nursing Faculty Awarded National Grant for Substance Abuse Training

A University of Kentucky College of Nursing professor is equipping faculty members, primary care nurse practitioner students and primary care providers across Kentucky with the clinical skills to direct care when a patient presents signs of substance abuse.

The College of Nursing Appoints its First Director of Diversity And Inclusion

Associate Professor Jenna Hatcher, RN, PhD, MPH has accepted a new leaders​hip position to help the College improve the culture of its community and the quality of its programs as the first Director of Diversity and Inclusion. In this new role Dr. Hatcher will work closely with the UK Office of Institutional Diversity to ensure that diversity and inclusion are fully implemented in the College's strategic plan, classrooms and  community. She will also help the College of Nursing acknowledge and celebrate the differences in our community.​

Professor Amanda Fallin's Op-ed about Opioid Overdose Prevention

Professor Amanda Fallin and Clinical Associate Professor Patricia Freeman in the College of Pharmacy had an op-ed published in the Lexington Herald-Leader about the need for pharmacists to receive training in the use of naloxone for opioid overdose prevention and apply for certification from the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy in order help fight Kentucky’s deadly opioid epidemic. Professor Ellen Hahn and Dean Janie Heath's Op-ed on Funding Tobacco Prevention and Treatment Efforts

Professor Ellen Hahn and Dean Janie Heath penned an op-ed that was featured in the Louisville Courier-Journal, and the Lexington Herald-Leader. The piece was written in response to a CDC report that admonished South Carolina, Texas and Kentucky for failing to provide enough money from tobacco tax revenue for tobacco prevention efforts.
