Annual KCSP conference recognizes local policymakers and advocates for leadership in creating smoke-free communities

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing’s Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy (KCSP) and the Kentucky Department for Public Health’s Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program (KTPC) celebrated tobacco-free successes statewide and discussed how tobacco control efforts can align with age-friendly communities at the 2023 Kentucky Tobacco Control Conference:

Markey study: New program shows promise in reducing financial burden of cancer care

The rising cost of cancer care puts patients and their caregivers at increased risk of experiencing financial toxicity, a term used to describe financial hardship caused by out-of-pocket treatment costs. A new University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center study published in JCO Oncology Practice found that the use of a financial navigator can significantly reduce financial toxicity for patients with hematologic cancer and their caregivers.

Group working with UK researchers to meaningfully involve people who use drugs

A group of University of Kentucky researchers in the Substance Use Priority Research Area (SUPRA) is working to make studies more responsive and inclusive. The group formed a community advisory board, called the Survivors Union of the Bluegrass (SUB), including those who identify as people who use drugs and/or people in non-abstinence-based recovery. 

UK Nursing's Lovoria Williams, UK cancer center works to decrease disparities for Black, Hispanic communities

The University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center is working to decrease the health disparity that Black and Hispanic communities face. The community health worker position was formed under the Kentucky Cancer Program. It’s a statewide program led by the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center and the University of Louisville’s Brown Cancer Center.

Fall 2022 Dean's List Released

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing has released its Dean's List for the Fall 2022 semester. Nearly 700 nursing and pre-nursing students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.  To make a Dean’s List in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the Dean’s List.

Dr. Hartley Feld Publishes Safe Infant Sleep paper in Ecuador

UK College of Nursing's Hartley Feld, PhD, MSN, has published a Safe Infant Sleep research paper in Ecuador. 

Nurse Practitioner Named #2 Best U.S. Job in 2023

The U.S. News and World Report released its ranking of the 100 best jobs in America for 2023, focusing on occupations with the largest projected growth between now and 2031. Nurse practitioner was ranked second on the list.
