After eight years at the helm of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, Dean Janie Heath is retiring so she can slow down and enjoy quality time with her family and friends.

Shoulder to Shoulder Global program awarded USAID grant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 14, 2022) — The University of Kentucky’s Shoulder to Shoulder Global (STSG) program and Department of Pediatrics have been awarded a grant of $421,000 from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to expand the nonprofit collaborative Centro de Salud Hombro a Hombro health center (CSHH) as an educational and empowerment site in Santo Domingo, Ecuador.

UK's DNP program was the first in the country and continues to grow to meet the complex health needs of patients, families, communities and healthcare systems. The event will take place at The Campbell House on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. 

Three UK Nursing Faculty Honored as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing

  Three UK College of Nursing faculty were honored as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) on Saturday, October 29th, in a ceremony in Washington, DC.  Dr. Ana Maria Linares (DNS, RN, IBCLC), Dr. Gia Mudd-Martin (PhD, MPH, RN, FAHA), and Dr. Kim Tharp-Barrie (DNP, RN, SANE, FNAP) were inducted to this prestigious group.  Fellows are nursing leaders in education, management, practice, and research and represent nurses in higher education, hospital administration, state and federal government, and entrepreneurship.

Geunyeong Cha selected for 2022 Outstanding SAHA Cardiovascular Research Nursing Student

  College of Nursing and PhD student, Geunyeong Cha, was selected as the 2022 Outstanding Saha Cardiovascular Research Nursing Student on October 28th.  The Saha Awards, provided through UK’s Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, are given to encourage and support staff and students with an interest in, and dedication to, cardiovascular medicine.

College of Nursing Students, Alumna, and Staff Honored with Lyman T. Johnson Awards

Two students, an alumna and a staff member from the College of Nursing were honored on Friday, October 14 during the 31st annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards program, which was hosted by The UK Alumni Association, the Lyman T. Johnson African American Alumni Group, and the UK Office for Institutional Diversity. Friday’s ceremony was a combined 2021 and 2022 ceremony because last year’s event was postponed due to the pandemic.

CONAA Honors Two UK College of Nursing Alumni

Two outstanding UK College of Nursing Alumni were honored at the College of Nursing Alumni Association luncheon on October 14. Dr. Jake Higgins was the recipient of the First Decade Award and Ms. Delanor Manson was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Award. Dr. Higgins received a BSN in 2012 and a PhD in 2019 from UK and is currently an assistant professor in the College of Nursing as well as nurse scientist with UK HealthCare.

College of Nursing's JungHee Kang's Research on Diet and Health Literacy Recognized at International Conference

  UK College of Nursing’s Dr. JungHee Kang was selected as the winner of the Nursing and Allied Professions Investigator Award for her best research presentation at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in August 2022, which was held in Barcelona, Spain.

College of Nursing Researcher Abbie Latimer Receives Grant to Study Service Provision for Older Adults Experiencing Homelessness and Serious Illnesses

  The number of Older Adults Experiencing Homelessness (OAEH), especially in the age 50 and over category, is increasing in the United States. This is leading to an increased number of OAEH with chronic and often life-threatening illnesses. How do members of this population get their basic needs met? How can they get treatment for their conditions and how can healthcare providers best treat these patients?
