The Provost’s 2023 Outstanding Teaching Awards: Cathy Catlett

Cathy Catlett, assistant professor in the UK College of Nursing, is one of 10 winners to receive the University of Kentucky’s 2022-23 Outstanding Teaching Awards. These awards identify and recognize individuals who demonstrate special dedication to student achievement and who are successful in their teaching. Recipients were selected via nomination and reviewed by a selection committee based in the UK Provost’s Office for Faculty Advancement and the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. 

Lexington celebrates 20 years of being smoke-free

The city of Lexington celebrated the 20th anniversary of its historic smoke-free ordinance in a ceremony at the Lexington-Fayette Government Center. “Lexington’s smoke-free law has had an enormous impact on the health of Lexington citizens. In terms of public health, it is one of the most important, if not the most important, ordinance we have passed in the last 20 years,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “It has saved countless lives. I am proud to have left a public health legacy for all workers and residents.”

Dr. Ellen Hahn Discusses Radon Action Month on Good Day Kentucky

Ellen Hahn, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor and director of BREATHE, appeared on Good Day Kentucky on Friday, January 25, to discuss the health implications of radon, a radioactive gas that lives in the soil and is harmful when trapped in a home or building. Watch the video here. 

Alumni Spotlight: Corinna Hughes

UK Board of Trustees approves construction phase for new Health Education Building

The construction phase of the new University of Kentucky Health Education Building was approved Friday by the UK Board of Trustees. The $380 million project was authorized by the 2022 Kentucky General Assembly and the design phase was approved by the Board of Trustees in May 2021. 

Alumni Spotlight: Kent Brouwer

Dr. Kent Brouwer, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, is a two-time UK College of Nursing graduate. He completed the Accelerated BSN Program in 2018 and later graduated from the DNP Program in 2022.  He is a lecturer for the College of Nursing, an acute care nurse practitioner at Baptist Health Lexington, and a staff RN at UK Healthcare's Cardiovascular PCU.    What do you find most rewarding about your work?

Spring 2023 Dean's List Released

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing has released its Dean's List for the Spring 2023 semester. Nearly 650 nursing and pre-nursing students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.  To make a Dean’s List in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the Dean’s List.

UK College of Nursing celebrates 20 years of DNP

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing (CoN) recently celebrated 20 years of its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. UK’s DNP program was the first in the nation, and on April 14 faculty, alumni and students joined together to celebrate all the incredible nurses that come from UK.
