College of Nursing Celebrates Legacy of Lyman T. Johnson

Johnson Awards Luncheon. The luncheon celebrates the legacy of Lyman T. Johnson, the first African American student to attend the University of Kentucky.

College of Nursing Celebrates Golden Wildcats

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing celebrated the Golden Wildcats - the class of 1969 - with a special dinner at the Hilary J. Boone Center on Thursday, October 10, 2019. The College was also joined by Minji Kim, BSN junior and Homecoming queen finalist, as well as Dr. Gwen Moreland, three-time College of Nursing alumna and Chief Nurse Executive for UK HealthCare. The celebrations will continue on Friday, October 11, at the annual homecoming luncheon.

Dr. Camille Burnett Receives Grant from Federation of Virginia Food Banks

Camille Burnett, PhD, MPA, APHN-BC, RN, BScN, DSW, associate professor, received a $90,000 grant from the Federation of Virginia Food Banks entitled “Virginia Food Pantry Evaluation.”

Kentucky Recognized for Strong Smoke-free Workplace Laws

  FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 27, 2019)  The American Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation (ANRF) has ranked Kentucky third in this year’s ‘smoke-free indoor air challenge.’ Kentucky enacted the third most local smoke-free laws in 2018, behind Texas and Mississippi. The awards were presented at the National Conference on Tobacco or Health in Minneapolis. Winners were determined based on policy surveillance data compiled from the U.S. Tobacco Control Laws Database.

College of Nursing Partners with Community for Health Fair, Announces K-CARE Results

  Thanks to Owensboro Health, the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and the UK HealthCare Markey Cancer Center, residents of Owensboro received free screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, spirometry, HIV and more at a community health fair at Owensboro Health's Healthpark on Saturday, September 21.

With high suicide rates among nurses, we must focus on prevention in Kentucky and the US

Given the alarming statistics surrounding suicide within the scope of health professions, it’s no surprise nurses are at the forefront of such findings.

Healthcare Simulation Week 2019

  The College of Nursing celebrated Healthcare Simulation Week with a reception in its Clinical Simulation and Learning Center (CSLC) on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Students, faculty and staff joined the global simulation community for the week, recognizing professionals who improve the safety, effectiveness and quality of health care services every day. The week also raises awareness in communities nationwide about how health care simulation is leading us to a safer, more knowledgeable patient care.

UK Family Weekend 2019

  College of Nursing students, faculty and staff celebrated UK Family Weekend September 13-15. On Saturday, the CON hosted a tailgate where all were welcome to enjoy a cookout, inflatables, Crank and Boom ice cream, Steel City Pops, giveaways, special guest appearances, and more. View photos here.
