BLOG: To Care for Others, Nurses Must First Care for Themselves

Stress and the intense pressure of finishing a degree have driven promising students away from the nursing profession. For others committed to a career caring for the sick and injured, unmanaged stress, anxiety and depression have resulted in the tragedy of suicide.

UK Nurse, Alumna Running in Boston Marathon to Raise Money for 50 Legs

By Elizabeth Thompson   While handling anything from headaches to motor cycle accidents, Carson Swartz understands the importance of having a healthy way to relieve stress. “Running is my outlet,” Swartz said. Swartz is a graduate of the UK College of Nursing and now works in the UK Emergency Department in the level one trauma center. An accomplished distance runner, she said the Boston Marathon is “every runners dream".

BSN & DNP Students Join Dean Heath at Annual AACN Health Policy Summit on Capitol Hill

UK College of Nursing BSN student Alli Overfield and DNP student Eva Stone joined Dr. Janie Heath, dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing, at the annual American Association of Colleges of Nursing Health Policy Summit on Capitol Hill, March 25-27. They joined other Kentucky deans and students to advocate for funding for nursing education and research to impact health and wellness in vulnerable populations.
