BREATHE Helps Teens Advocate for Tobacco-Free Communities

  By Hilary Brown UK's Bridging Research Efforts and Advocacy Toward Healthy Environments (BREATHE) team recently partnered with Youth Empowered Solutions (YES) to host tobacco and youth advocacy training for leadership students of Hazard High School, as well as a training session for adult community advocates from around the state on the importance of youth empowerment and mentorship and how to engage youth in advocacy efforts.

College of Nursing Students, Veterans Nursing Council Collect More Than 75,000 Caps for Lady Veterans Connect

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing Veterans Nursing Council and students in Dr. Lexie Dampier's NUR 201 class collected more than 75,000 bottle caps for Lady Veterans Connect, a non-profit organization in Lexington, Kentucky, which aims to end homelessness for lady veterans. The caps will be recycled into chairs for the Lady Veterans' homes. 

Faculty Spotlight: Wanda Lovitz

“I grew up in the ’70s, and at the time, most women decided between being a teacher and being a nurse,” says Wanda Lovitz, MSN, RN, APRN, clinical instructor at the College of Nursing. “Now, it’s the best of both worlds. I get to teach students, and I get to practice.” Lovitz teaches NUR 210, the first pathopharmacology course students take during their sophomore year. The course includes pathophysiology and pharmacology and links them to nursing practice. “It’s not common to see combined pathopharmacology courses in nursing programs,” Lovitz notes.

Dean Janie Heath Joins UK Faculty Colleagues Inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society
