Her screen saver features a list of things she can do to distract herself from her nicotine cravings as she tries to quit smoking. For 18 years, Williams has struggled with tobacco use. Now pregnant with her fifth child, she hopes she can finally kick the habit.

UK Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program Receives Accreditation

The University of Kentucky College of Nursing’s BREATHE Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training program received accreditation from the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP) on Aug. 16. The program is one of 18 accredited training programs for tobacco treatment internationally.

Public health nurse refresher course knowledge was used in planning for the safety and health of Kentucky residents and the high influx of tourists in the state during the recent total eclipse on August 21, 2017. Several first-aid stations staffed with local health department nurses were set up in the Hopkinsville area.

Carolyn Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean emeritus of the UK College of Nursing and former president of the American Academy of Nursing, was one of five nurse leaders to receive the Academy's designation of Living Legend, the organization's highest honor, at a special ceremony during the policy conference in Washington, D.C. on October 5, 2017.
