SNA Members Write "Open When" Letters to Encourage and Support Undergraduate Nursing Students

  Students at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing go above and beyond to serve others both in the community and within the College. In her role as service coordinator for Student Nurses Association (SNA), undergraduate nursing student Lindsey Snider brainstorms ideas to give back every month. “What we did this month was actually our backup idea – we got it from Alphi Phi Omega, a service fraternity on campus,” says Snider.

Pre-Nursing Student Emily Dawson was once a Cancer Patient, Now a Dancer at the Danceblue 24-Hour Fundraiser

  The Lexington Herald Leader ran a story about University of Kentucky freshman pre-nursing student Emily Dawson at the UK Arboretum in Lexington, Ky., on Feb. 24, 2017. Former PhD Student, Nurse Anesthetist Tests EEG-Guided Technique to Reduce Memory Loss Post-Surgery

  By Elizabeth Adams LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 15, 2017) —No patient wants to remember the traumatic experience of going under the knife. With the conveniences of modern medicine, anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists erase the memory and pain of invasive surgeries by administering medicines that induce relaxation and unconsciousness. Patients awake from a deep sleep with no memory of the surgery, the incision or the physical harm done to their bodies.

Following the Clinical Leaders: Dr. Lynne Jensen

  Lynne Jensen, PhD, RN, APRN, associate professor, is a key member of the College’s clinical faculty and a leader in nursing practice, research and interdisciplinary education. A nurse practitioner since 1979, Dr. Jensen is now medical director for clinical care at the Center for the Advancement of Women’s Health at UK and a founding member of the center’s popular women’s health clinic, where she sees patients three days a week.

National Cancer Prevention Day with Less Cancer

  UK College of Nursing Dean and Warwick Professor of Nursing Janie Heath, PhD, APRN-BC, FAAN, traveled to Washington D.C. on Thursday, Feb. 2 for National Cancer Prevention Day where she participated in discussions, lectures and a town hall meeting and spoke on behalf of Less Cancer–the campaign that works to keep prevention in the forefront of the cancer conversation.

Following the Clinical Leaders: Lynn Kelso

  Lynn Kelso, MSN, APRN, FCCM, FAANP, assistant professor, teaches the academically rigorous Pathophysiology/Pharmacology course to BSN students and is a clinical instructor for their first major clinical experience in the hospital. They couldn’t be in better hands. In 1995, Kelso was a nurse practitioner on the care team in the liver transplant unit at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center when she earned acute care credentials, one of the first practitioners in the country to do so.
