UK College of Nursing honors Spring 2021 graduates in PhD, DNP programs

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing celebrated its Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice graduates during a Virtual PhD & DNP Recognition Ceremony on Friday, May 14, 2021.   The ceremony was led by Janie Heath, dean of the UK College of Nursing, and also recognized the College's post-graduate certificate recipients.  

UK College of Nursing celebrates BSN Class of Spring 2021

  The University of Kentucky College of Nursing honored its 81st Baccalaureate graduating class with a Pinning Ceremony at Memorial Coliseum on Friday, May 14, 2021.   The ceremony was led by Janie Heath, dean of the UK College of Nursing, and Lindsey Osbourne, president of the Class of Spring 2021.  Other featured speakers included Spring 2021 BSN graduates Jilian Adolf and Zachary Whitfield.       Pictured above left to right are Julian Adolf and Zach Whitfield.

In May 2020, the University of Kentucky College of Nursing students, staff and faculty were all working from home. UK HealthCare had constructed a 400-bed field hospital to prepare for a potential surge in COVID-19 patients.  And nurses and health care workers across the world were on the frontlines battling a pandemic the likes of which most of us had never seen.

  In an effort to raise awareness about nurses' mental health and help curb the rate of nurse suicide, Governor Andy Beshear has declared May as Nurse Suicide Prevention Month in Kentucky.

UK College of Nursing surveying Kentucky frontline workers on infection control knowledge as part of Project Firstline

  Memorable images of frontline workers treating COVID-19 patients wearing gowns, masks, face shields and other personal protective equipment (PPE) are examples of infection control in practice.  Infection control is critical in health care settings like hospitals and long-term care facilities where staff must care for patients with contagious illnesses while being mindful of their safety and the safety of other patients and staff.  The spread of COVID-19 is the latest example of why it is imperative to follow infection control protocols. 

UK Study Shows Increased Financial Burden Linked to Decreased Health Insurance Literacy

A recent study by University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center researchers including nurse scientist Dr. Jean Edward from the UK College of Nursing, looked into the association of financial burden with health insurance literacy in colorectal cancer patients.
